The other day on the train to Penn Station a guy sat next to me.  There was a little girl in the seat in front of us peaking through the chairs, and he was so nice with her, making her laugh and such.
I can’t help seeing this and wondering if this was him.

That beef is anachronistic.

  • In my Literature class, discussing "Symposium."
  • Student: But how could Plato use real people as characters and just put words in their mouths?
  • Teacher: Back then there was no such notion as "copyright." It's not like it would be today. Plato could use real people to communicate his own words.
  • Student: But if that's Plato's philosophy, then I have a beef.
  • Teacher: That beef is anachronistic.

The movies I've watched since I've been in college:

and a brief comment.

009 Ponyo

I love Miyazaki.

010 Pineapple Express

James Franco.

011 Dangerous Liasons

Glenn Close was perfect.  Very.. dynamic movie.

012 The Prestige

Christian Bale <3.  Good movie.. but unfortunately, I already knew one of the plot twists.

013 New York, I Love You

It was obvious they tried to make the movie more cohesive than Paris, Je’Taime.  It was good.. but all the love was the same kind of male/female relationship.  No mimes here.  The part that Natalie Portman directed was my favorite..

014 Cruel Intentions

It was the clean version since I watched it on TV.  A pretty decent attempt at a modern Dangerous Liasons, but it wasn’t as good as it.

015 Uncertainty (11/14)

I was nauseous the whole time because I sat in the front row.. a noble project, but ultimately not an especially moving or poignant movie.  But.. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was worth it.

016 Bright Star (11/15)

Beautiful.. slow-moving, but the ending wrapped it up perfectly.

017 Inglorious Basterds (11/19)

Hilarious.  Absurd.  Hilariously absurd.

018 There Will Be Blood (11/19)

Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano are both fantastic actors!  When I read the plot I thought this movie would bore me, but I was totally sucked in the whole time.

019 An Education (11/21)

There were so many things I loved about this movie.  The scene where David and Danny are asking Jenny to sing was so.. it made me swoon.  Like, really.  Really.  My only complaint is that I feel there was a mysterious half-hour just randomly cut from the ending.. it didn’t end badly, but it didn’t end.. appropriately.  There was no closure.
